The tug game that doesn't need your arm

Tug is the game most dogs want most — and the one that wears your shoulder out first. Wedge this anchor into any door frame and your dog gets a springy, resistant opponent that pulls back every time, without you holding the other end.

Ten focused minutes of tug tires a dog out more than a long, sniffy walk. This is how you get those ten minutes on a busy day.

Why dogs (and owners) love it

🚪

Anchors to any door

The stopper wedges above the door and holds fast when it's closed. No screws, no brackets, no marks on the frame — and it lifts out in seconds.

💪

Bungee gives, then pulls back

The stretch absorbs the shock of each yank instead of transmitting it straight into your dog's neck — and the rebound keeps the game going.

🧠

Burns energy fast

Tug engages the whole body and the prey drive at once. A short session takes the edge off a dog who'd otherwise be chewing the skirting board.

🦷

Satisfies the pull instinct

Terriers, bullies, shepherds and any dog bred to grip and hold get a legitimate outlet for a drive that has to go somewhere.

🌧️

Works indoors on bad days

Rain, snow, a late finish, a sore knee — the doorway is always available. Useful for crate rest recovery too, at low intensity.

🎒

Goes where you go

Unclip it, roll it up, drop it in a bag. Sets up again in a hotel room, an office door or your parents' hallway in about ten seconds.

Set it up in 30 seconds

  1. Pick a solid door. A sturdy internal door on a firm frame. Skip glass panels, sliding doors and anything loose in its hinges.
  2. Drop the anchor over the top. Hang the stopper on the far side, above the door.
  3. Close the door firmly so the stopper is pinched in place, then tug the cord hard yourself to confirm it holds.
  4. Check the height. The toy should sit around your dog's chest level — never so high they have to jump or leave their feet.
  5. Start the game. Get them interested by moving the toy along the floor rather than waving it in their face.

⚠️ Please read before first use

  • Supervise every session. No tug toy — this one included — should be left with a dog who's home alone. A bungee cord and an unattended dog is a tangling and choking risk, and damage can happen fast and silently.
  • Not a chew toy. This is for active tug while you're present, then put away. Dogs left to gnaw on it will shred it and may swallow pieces.
  • Keep it at chest height. Tugging above head height twists the neck and spine. Let your dog pull horizontally with their feet planted.
  • Not for puppies under 6 months or dogs with dental disease, jaw problems, or neck and back injuries. Check with your vet first if you're unsure.
  • Mind the recoil. If your dog lets go suddenly, the bungee snaps back. Stand to the side, not in the firing line, and keep children clear.
  • Inspect before every use. Fraying cord, a worn stopper or loose stitching means retire it. Replace at the first sign of damage.

Get more out of it

Teach "drop"

Tug builds impulse control

Play, then ask for a release and reward it. A dog who reliably lets go on cue is easier to handle everywhere else, not just on the toy.

Short bursts

Two minutes on, one minute off

Short rounds with breaks keep arousal manageable and stop it tipping into over-excitement. Finish while they still want more.

Questions before you buy

Will it damage my door or frame?

The stopper sits on the far side of a closed door and spreads the load across the top edge, so it doesn't bite into the frame. Use a solid internal door rather than a hollow or glass-panelled one.

Can I leave my dog alone with it?

No. Use it while you're in the room and put it away afterwards. Unsupervised tug toys are a tangling and swallowing risk, and this one is built for active play, not for chewing.

Is my dog too strong for it?

The bungee is built to absorb hard pulling from powerful dogs. If yours is a serious shredder, check the cord and stitching after every session and retire it at the first fray.

Doesn't tug make dogs aggressive?

No — that's an old myth. Trainers use tug as a reward precisely because it channels drive into a game with rules. Teaching a solid "drop" turns it into impulse-control practice.

My dog isn't interested. Now what?

Don't wave it at their face — that reads as confrontational. Drag it low along the floor, away from them, in short darting movements. Prey moves away; that's what switches most dogs on.

Will this fix separation anxiety?

It won't, and no toy will. Separation anxiety is a behavioural condition that needs a training plan and often a vet or behaviourist. What this does help with is draining energy before you leave, which makes settling easier.

Ten minutes of tug beats an hour of pacing

Hang it on the door, play a few rounds, put it away. The simplest energy outlet in the house.
